1658 – Crucifying of the World, Puritan Richard Baxter | Evangelism & Conversion
“Lay siege to your sins, and starve them out by keeping away the food and fuel which is their maintenance and life.”
― Richard Baxter
Richard Baxter was one of the most important 17th-century English Puritan Nonconformist leaders. While best known for his work ‘Saints Everlasting Rest’, he also published one of his most iconic sermons under the title “The Crucifying of the World”. In this sermon, Baxter tells of the inevitable damnation of the world, which is summed up best in his statement:
“I can foresee the certain damnation of all unconverted sensualists and worldlings, and how sad a farewell they must shortly take of all their felicity; but to prevent it is not in my power… But if you will not hear and take warning, it is because the Lord will destroy you, and because you are not the sheep of Christ.”
Baxter wanted readers and listeners to gain nothing other than “convert or be condemned” from this work; a book of Puritan evangelism. This first edition is considerably rare.
Condition: Original leather binding is tight and secure with professionally restoration. Pages are generally clean with only mild age toning noticeable.
Item number: #27141
Price: $1500
