Nemesius was a 4^th-century Bishop of Emesa, however he was much better known for his only surviving book ‘On the Nature of Man’. This book proved to be one of the earliest studies in Christian anthropology and the Greek approaches to the structures of the human body. It is also concerned with the structure of the universe, and the levels of providence, or the characteristics of God. Nemesius is also credited with the idea of ‘world-soul’, first found in this book.

 

This 1636 English edition of Nemesius was collected and edited by George Wither, published in London by Taunton.
