1830 – Book of Martyrs – John Foxe | Illustrated Martyrology, Acts & Monuments

A 1830 printing of John Foxe’s famous “Actes and Monuments”. Foxe began working on this landmark work in 1552. While in exile, in 1554, the first examples of this book were published in Latin focusing on the religious persecution of Lollards in England during the 1400s. However, the rest of his book was written in response to more persecution occurring throughout England.

This edition includes stunning full-page art depicting torture, assassinations and deaths of famous martyrs. The 1830 Charles Goodrich features the title “Book of Martyrs”.
