Image Gallery Description & Details

This 1841 second edition of A History of British Fishes by William Yarrell includes all three volumes—both standard volumes plus the often-missing supplement. It’s packed with hundreds of wood-engraved illustrations and entries covering everything from trout and salmon to soles, smelts, and skates. Yarrell was a fisherman himself, and his first-hand knowledge shows in the way he writes about behavior, habitats, and species traits. Westwood & Satchell called this book “indispensable in every English Angler’s Library,” and it has held that status ever since.
