John Greenleaf Whittier was an American Quaker who was known for his poetry advocating slavery abolition, Native Americans living, and the life of Quakers. Beginning in 1830, Whitter began writing poems that were heavily influenced by politics and the American slavery abolition movement. This 1904 edition is a compilation of Whittier’s Poetical works and a desirable part of the history of American poetry illustrated with engraved portraits in each volume.
