1778 – Knights Hospitallers – Vertot | Famous – Crusades, Knights Templar – 7v
Vertot’s 1778 history of the Knights Hospitaller, Rhodes, and Malta, in two volumes, covering famous crusader campaigns.
This 18th-century landmark work depicts some of the most important points of the crusades, the Knights Templar, Teutonic Knights, Knights of Malta, and the Knights of Rhodes (Hospitaller). It includes exciting adventures and travels through the lands of the Turks, as well as a great siege by the Ottomans. Vertot, a Jesuit, spent most of his life as a pastor. He had numerous critics and enemies, many of which disregarded his work as historically inaccurate, though there is little basis for their claims.
