Image Gallery Description & Details

Nights With Uncle Remus: Myths and Legends of the Old Plantation, by Joel Chandler Harris, was printed in Boston by James R. Osgood and Company in 1883. This first edition continues the storyteller’s earlier work through new tales centered around Br’er Rabbit, Br’er Fox, and other familiar characters. The book includes 22 plates and presents more of the dialect-heavy narration framed within Southern plantation settings. These stories became the foundation for later cultural reinterpretations, including the widely discussed Disney adaptation. This copy belongs to a significant phase of American publishing when oral traditions were first transferred into printed form.
