Image Gallery Description & Details

Lorenz Beger was a 17th-century German scholar of antiquities who published an impressive Thesaurus on philosophy of numismatics. This work, Thesaurus Brandenburgicus Selectus, covers the studies on ancient coins, specifically those from Ancient Rome, held in the Brandenburg court collections.

The coins and medals feature the likeness of dozens of Roman historical and mythological figures as well as famous emperors and rulers of Rome. Notable figures depicted in this volume include: Julius Caesar, Augustus Caesar, Nero, Empress Sabina, Marcus Aurelius, Scipio Africanus, Romulus and Remus, and Hadrian; and Roman mythological figures such as Minerva, Mars, Helen, and Diana.
