Emblems Divine and Moral is a collection of devotional poems and verses based various passages from the Bible. While the poems have always been popular, it is the full-page allegorical illustrations, or ‘emblems’, that make this edition so desirable. This particular 1778 edition is notable for being bound with Christopher Harvey’s School of the Heart, adapted from Benedictus van Haeften’s Schola Cordis, forming a combined devotional text rooted in early modern religious writing.
