Image Gallery Description & Details

Joannes huss de anatomia antichristi, liber unus is am early Renaissance treatise connecting John Wycliffe, Jan Hus, and Martin Luther. This work, first published in 1524, adapts material from Matthias de Ianova’s Regulae Veteris et Novi Testamenti, a foundation of Hussite teaching, as well as the concept of papal Antichrist through the allegory of human anatomy. Included is Hus’s letter to Martin Luther urging the importance of his writings within the reform movement. Johann Schott produced this edition in Strassburg, a center of Reformation printing, and this particular example is notable for being bound in a period manuscript with leather ties.
