The Holy Bible – 1817 | Mant Commentary & Common Prayer | Illustrated, 4 Volumes
1817 Oxford edition of the Holy Bible in four volumes edited by D’Oyly and Mant, featuring 64 engraved plates and commentary by Anglican authorities.
A highly rare, early 19th-century King James Holy Bible printed in Oxford by Clarendon Press in 1817. Oxford Bibles printed in this era have always maintained their popularity as well as desirability. This edition was prepared and arranged by George D’Oyly and Richard Mant. These two English churchmen produced an impressive and important Bible commentary that included throughout this huge set. Without question, the popularity gained from this illustrated Bible propelled Richard Mant to publish his History of the Church of Ireland and his edition of the Book of Common Prayer.
This four volume edition contains dozens of full-page engravings and maps and is considered by the DNB to be a “valuable annotated Bible”.
