Image Gallery Description & Details

John de Forest’s History of the Indians of Connecticut is one of the best sources on Native American Indian tribes of New England. It describes the lifestyle, culture, and social and religious customs of various tribes including the Quinnipiacs, Pequots, Mohegans, Wepawaugs, and many others. It should be noted that notable American resources consider this work to be the “best account of these tribes” (Howes). It also covers wars with these tribes as well as local Connecticut laws that were put in place concerning Indians.

This rare first edition includes the oft-lacking folding frontispiece map.
