centering on the lives of Netherlandish and German painters. This book, which is often called the Schilder-boeck (or “Painter’s Book”) is considered to be the Dutch equivalent of the much more famous Lives by Vasari.
In this 1764 edition, numerous full-page engravings illustrate the biographies of notable artists such as Jan van Eyck, Rogier van der Weyden, Hieronymus Bosch, and Pieter Bruegel the Elder.
