Hugo Grotius was an early 17th-century Dutch jurist who is most remembered for his contributions to the foundation of international and natural law. He also made provided groundwork in Arminianism and is considered and ‘economic theologist’. In addition to his most famous work ‘De Jure Belli’, Grotius published a treatise outlining the Ten Commandments (Explicatio Decalogi) – an interpretation that is consistent with De Jure Belli and his understanding of natural law. Grotius sees the Ten Commandments as a universal moral law rooted in God’s grace with much influence from Jesus’s ministry and the New Testament scriptures
