1577 – Geneva Breeches Bible – Christopher Barker | Apocrypha, Holy Land Map

The Geneva version was translated into English by William Whittingham, Anthony Gilby, and Thomas Sampson. This particular edition was published by Christopher Barker and known as the Breeches Bible, a variation of the Geneva Bible in which the English in Genesis 3:7 uses the word ‘breeches’ which was continued to be used through the King James 1611 English. Even after the 1611 King James English Bible was published, the Geneva Bible would still be edition of choice of the Puritans into the mid-17th-century.

This 1577 edition includes the Old and New Testaments, the Apocrypha, and The Description of the Holie Land which is complete with a small map of the Holy Land.

Condition:

Very Good. Modern, professional leather with tooling and five raised ribs. Page edges show some wear and staining, more so at the front. Incomplete, lacking leaves 2, 3, and 5 of Genesis.
