1547 – Orations of Demosthenes | Greek Language, Basel, Full Vellum
1547 Basel edition of Demosthenes’ Orationes, printed by Ioannes Heruagius, with Greek text, Latin preliminaries, and the arguments of Libanius; volume one in full vellum.
Demosthenes’s orations are considered some of the most significant and important speeches on the politics of ancient Greek culture and Greek law. He spoke out about the use of the Greek navy, the importance of freedom, Athenian law, and the governing of the people.
This 1547 Basel edition was published entirely in Greek and includes arguments of Libanius, a 4th-century Sophist rhetorician frequently published alongside Demosthenes in Renaissance printings.
