1862 – Fertilisation of Orchids – Charles Darwin | First Edition – Evolution Science
Darwin’s 1862 first edition on orchid fertilisation examines plant and insect interaction, with 34 engravings and detailed observational research in a London John Murray imprint.
A rare 1862 first edition of Charles Darwin’s “Fertilisation of Orchids”, a book which explores the interactions between plans and insects with regard to the theory of evolution. This book followed “Origin of Species” which briefly covered the topic, however, Darwin was determined to dive further into detail.
In this book, Darwin attempts to counter the accepted view that such organisms, plants and insects, could come from a creator (God). He shows his experiments, observations, and research in a manner that he felt supported his claims. This second edition includes nearly 40 illustrations insects, plants, and flower parts.
