1835 – Col. Davy Crockett Political Tour | First Edition | Congress Election Campaign
Davy Crockett’s 1835 campaign account through the North features political commentary, repeated speeches, and observations from his congressional re-election tour.
Davy Crockett is often regarded as the most famous American folk hero of the 19th-century. Best remembered for his involvement in the Battle of the Alamo, Crockett was also an accomplished politician. Beginning in 1834, Crockett took a political tour of the American North, visiting major cities of Philadelphia, New York, and Boston, in hopes of gaining support for re-election to Congress. The work contains
“Crockett’s own records and observations of his trip, most of it was political, boosting his re-election campaign as well as the Whig cause in General. [The author] included no less than ten repetitions of Crockett’s anti-Andrew Jackson speech in various forms as delivered on the tour.” (Groneman, p.)
