Cicero, Virgil, Herodotus – English Translation – (1830–1833) | Fine Binding, 8 Vol Set
Eight-volume English set of Cicero, Virgil, and Herodotus published by A.J. Valpy in London, 1830–1833, in uniform vellum and marbled bindings, with translations by Dryden, Beloe, and others.
A rare 19th-century set of the works of three classical figures: Cicero, Virgil, and Herodotus. Published in London by Valpy, these eight volumes contain the famous works of classical history, poetry, and orations. Notable works, as expected, include Cicero’s Cato and Laelius, Virgil’s Eclogues, Georgics, and Aeneid, and Herodotus’s Clio and Euterpe. Each text is translated by noted period scholars including John Dryden and William Beloe.
The set itself is an impressive display; beautiful volumes bound in 19th-century vellum with marbled boards.
