1790 – Julius Caesar War Commentaries | Ancient Rome Maps | 2vol Set
1790 edition of Les commentaires de César by Julius Caesar, translated in French with continuation by Aulus Hirtius. Two-volume 12mo set with four large double-page maps illustrating Roman campaigns.
Julius Caesar’s War Commentaries are some of the most prolific military writings. They focus on first-hand accounts of Julius Caesar in the Callic wars but were written as though from a third-person view. This 1790 French edition was edited and translated by Henry Homer and Samuel Clarke, and includes Aulus Hirtius’ Bellum Alexandrinum and his continuation of Caesar’s De Bello Gallico. The draw of this two-volume edition, however, is the four impressive, double-page maps
