Image Gallery Description & Details

The Arts of Logick and Rhetorick by Dominique Bouhours is a 1728 first English edition of La manière de bien penser dans les ouvrages d’esprit. This book, edited by John Oldmixon, is a thorough English criticism of ancient literature, with countless comparisons of modern English literature to classic writings. Oldmixon incorporates writings of Shakespeare, Dryden, and Addison with those of Cicero, Virgil, Horace, Tertullian, Tasso, and Ovid. Of course, no commentary on famous literature would be complete without mention of Milton, Cervantes, and Moliere.
