Image Gallery Description & Details

Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was met with great acclaim when the first edition was released, and its popularity has hardly dwindled since. Where most Victorian children’s literature was educational or moralizing, Lewis’s fantasy story sought to entertain and delight. This undated edition, published by Boots the Chemists in conjunction with Hodder and Stoughton, features twelve enchanting full-color plates by British illustrator Gwynedd M. Hudson. Hudson’s interpretations, featuring figures such as the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, and the Red Queen, capture the playful yet slightly surreal tone of Carroll’s fantasy world.
