English naturalist James Sowerby published what would become the preeminent illustrated work on English botany. Entitled simply, ‘English Botany.’ This work was a compendium of the native plants in Great Britain. Sowerby provided beautiful illustrations accompanied by descriptions of the various properties, natural habitat, and other characteristics of numerous plants across Britain.

This edition 1876 printing of Sowerby’s ‘Botany’, entitled “British Wild Flowers” contains hundreds of color-illustrated figures.
