“The Pilgrim’s Progress” is a profound Christian allegory written by John Bunyan in 1678. Narrated as a dream sequence, it details the symbolic journey of a character named Christian, who travels from his hometown, the “City of Destruction,” to the heavenly “Celestial City.” The narrative charts Christian’s spiritual progress, confronting him with the trials and tribulations of his faith as well as the redemptive power of divine grace and perseverance. Bunyan’s masterpiece, which he began while imprisoned for violating England’s Conventicle Act, is considered a foundational piece of English literature and religious narrative, having influenced numerous authors and thinkers over centuries.
