  • Provenance: Handwritten – M. Leslie, ‘57
    • Likely G. M. Leslie (c. 1838-1864), a first sergeant in Company B of the 6th Arkansas Infantry for the Confederate States during the American Civil War. The 6th Arkansas served virtually the entire war in Confederate forces east of the Mississippi River. The unit saw combat in numerous battles, including Shiloh, Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Atlanta, and Bentonville. After the unit sustained heavy casualties during the Battle of Shiloh and Bragg’s Kentucky Campaign, the unit spent most of the rest of the war consolidated with the 7th Arkansas Infantry Regiment. Sergeant G. M. Leslie was killed in action during the Battle of Franklin in November 1864.
