Adam Johann Krusenstern (i.e. Ivan Fedorovich) was a 19^th-century Russian explorer best remembered for being the first Russian to voyage around the world. Beginning in 1803, Krusenstern set sail at the command of Tsar Alexander I to voyage around the world with the purpose of gaining geographical and scientific knowledge. While the voyage itself was important, it was the report that followed that was Krusenstern’s lasting legacy. It proved to be one of the best descriptions of the Pacific and the tribes of the Pacific Islands.
