Jean Victor Moreau was an 18^th-century French military officer known for his role in helping Napoleon gain political and military prominence. Moreau commanded French forces during the French Revolutionary wars, particularly the Army of Italy. However, Moreau would begin to disagree with Napoleon so much so that he would be banished from France and settle in America.

 

Moreau wrote his own autobiography describing his military campaigns and interactions with Napoleon. This 1806 English translation of Moreau’s “Life” was translated by John Davis published in New York by Bliss.
