Henry Lloyd was an 18^th-century Welsh soldier known for his involvement in numerous European wars. Over his life, he fought with French and Austrian forces, Russian campaigns, and even fought for AND against Great Britain at different points. He wrote extensively on military theory and is known that George Washington even studied his books on the science of war.

One of his books was “History of the War in Germany” – Lloyd’s most influential military book which became the standard for military instruction in the 18^th-century. It provided training on soldier organization, operation preparation, and the use of math and science in military planning. First written in 1766, this book was a response to his time in the Seven Years’ War.

This early 19^th-century French edition of Lloyd’s ‘History’ was published in Paris and given the title ‘Military and Political Memoirs of Lloyd’. Note the inclusion of impressive folding maps!
