William Thomson was an 18^th-century Scottish historian who published his works under the name Thomas Newte. Thomson’s most important work was his book ‘Prospects and Observations on a Tour of England’ in which he describes Newte’s excursion through Great Britain. While the character of Newte and his family are fictional, the descriptions are not. This book describes locations such as Loch-Lomond, Cawdor Castle, Perth, history of ancient Scottish family feuds (Montrose vs Argyll), Edinburgh and castle, York, and so much more.

This 1791 first edition of Newte’s ‘Tour’ includes impressive, full-page illustrated views of Scotland and England landscapes and castles.
