Bernard Forest de Bélidor was an 18^th-century French engineer who studied and helped develop inventions on hydraulics and ballistic weapons. Perhaps his best and most important work was his ‘Hydraulic Architecture’, not just because of the study into hydraulics, but because it was the first work to use integral calculus to solve technical problems. (Routledge).

This work served as the primarily reference for French infrastructure in the 18^th-century. It provided practical instruction on all aspects of engineering including water pumps, aqueducts and fountains, lighthouses, marble drilling and cutting, machinery, wood cutting, and much more!
