Maurice de Saxe was an 18th-century European military hero best-known for serving both the Holy Roman Empire and the French Imperial Army. Though perhaps his best and most memorable military feats occurred under Louis XV where he played an important role in the War of the Austrian Succession.
This 1757 first English edition of the works of Maurice de Saxe was published in London and includes his most important work ‘Mes Reveries’. This work was Saxe’s book on the art of war written after the Austrian War of Succession. It was met with resistance from many within the French military due to his views on the unnecessary use of fortifications.

- Octavius Sturges (1833–1894) was a British pediatrician who coined the term “chorea”. He attended Addiscombe Military Seminary and served two years in the army as an officer in the East India Company in Bombay before being misdiagnosed with an aortic aneurysm, after which he returned to England to study medicine.

He curated the Cottesloe Military Library, which included works from the earliest printed books through the rise of Napoleon, exclusively discussing military theory, weaponry, and tactics.
