    • Edward Michael Wigglesworth (c.1691–1765) was a clergyman, teacher and theologian in Colonial America. The Wigglesworth family had a generational impact on religion in colonial America, with his father, Michael Wigglesworth (1631–1705) also being a Puritan minister and poet, as well as a contemporary of Cotton and Increase Mather; he was also part of a group of ministers who met often in the Harvard library and were solicited for advice regarding witchcraft doctrine during the period of the Salem Witch Trials. Edward Michael Wigglesworth’s son, Edward Wigglesworth (1732-1794) would follow in his father’s footsteps, becoming a Hollis Chair of Divinity at Harvard, and later the university’s president from 1780-1781.
