He began dissecting insects which propelled him to write his ‘General History of Insects’ in which he not only describes the phases of an insect’s life, but also disproving many of the antiquated views on the internal anatomy of an insect. This 1685 French edition was published in Utrecht and features numerous illustrations including views of:
