Edward Sparke was a 17^th-century English minister known for his many published sermons and devotionals, though, his most famous work was his 1652 treatise, ‘Scintilla Altaris’. This work was a collection of disquisitions (consisting of poems, meditations, and essays) on the feasts of the Anglican liturgical calendar. He also included numerous prayers and hymns for reach feast as well portraits depicting many of the honored saints.

Interestingly, Sparke had himself a bit of fun titling this work… ‘scintilla’ is the Latin word for ‘spark’
