Known as ‘Eikon Basilike’, this diary gives light to the life of the king, as well as prayers, and secrets of the English military that led into the Civil War. While it is not certain that Charles I was the author or not, it is recognized as a work of Royalist propaganda and quite popular, even though it was highly disapproved of.

 

This 1681 Royston printing features the expected allegorical frontispiece which depicts Charles I as a Christian martyr.
