John Dryden was a 17^th-century English poet who was known as England’s very first Poet Laureate and would lead England into a literary period that would become known as the Age of Dryden. He also established standard forms of English poetry though his satires, fables, epigrams, poems, and plays.

 

Dryden’s work “Mr. Limberham or the Kind Keeper” is a play that, after its early performances, was considered by many to be a failure as the promiscuous content was unsettling to many of the viewers. This 1680 first edition was published in London by Bentley.
