“The Reformed Bishop” by Catholic priest James Gordon is a 1679 treatise on the behaviors and bishops and church fathers. Gordon includes 19 separate articles examining Protestant bishops’ conduct which, as expected, enraged the same Protestant bishops. Scottish churchmen heavily prosecuted Gordon for this treatise and banned the book claiming his views to be lies and deceitful. This work even contains references to the Gunpowder Plot and its effects on the church some 70 years later.
