Thomas Mainwaring’s “Legitimacy of Amicia” is a rare, 17^th-century treatise on marriage law. Mainwaring, a member of the English parliament, was heavily opposed by Peter Leicester (a distant relative) who was highly critical of Mainwaring and his writings but most of all Mainwaring’s claims of family connections to Amicia Mainwaring. Mainwaring and Leicester continuously fought over the matter which indirectly produced this book on family law and genealogy. This 1679 printing is the only known edition of this work. Quite rare.
