Famiano Strada, a Jesuit professor of rhetoric, is chiefly remembered for his famous account of the Dutch War. And while ‘De Bello Belgico’ was Strada’s most famous work, he did publish an important book on the history of the Eighty Years’ War in which he discussed Spanish rule over the Netherlands. Curiously, Strada took a pro-Spain approach, angering Dutch readers, but his intention was to call the supporters of William of Orange to action.

This impressive 1676 six-volume printing of Strada’s “History of the Flanders War” (i.e. Eighty Years War) was published in Lyon by Carteron, which according to the OCLC, is a very rare and obscure printing.
