Cornelius Hazart was a 17th-century Dutch Jesuit priest and controversialist writer. His “Ecclesiastical History of the Whole World” delivered on the ‘controversial’ side of church history, as Hazart explored some of the most detestable acts of the church including tortures, imprisonments, wars on religion, and brutal executions, such as drowning, hangings, beheadings, and burnings.

This third volume is from the 1669 first Dutch Antwerp edition. This book covers 16th-century church and political history throughout England and the Netherlands and includes notable topics such as:

  • Louis de Requesens, Spanish military officer and his service in the Spanish Netherlands.
  • Philip II King of Spain – reigns of Naples, England and Mary I,
  • Effects of King Henri VIII’s reign on the Netherlands and the Catholic Church
    • On Anne Boleyn, her life and death
    • Marriage to Jane Seymour
  • Martyrdom of Humphrey Middlemore and William Exmey; Margaret Clotherow (Middleton); Alexander Briant; many others
    • Illustrated
