Unsure? Ask an Expert!

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.”

― Bernard of Clairvaux

Bernard of Clairvaux was an 11th-century Cistercian monk who helped shape the Rule of the Knights Templar. His sermons were numerous and hundreds of them survived in written form. Amongst his other known writings are letters, apologies, dogmas, defenses of the Catholic Church, and treatises designed for teaching young believers.

Saint Bernard’s work, ‘Book of Considerations’, was written as an apology to Pope Eugene III for the failure of the Second Crusade, of which he felt responsible. In it, he explains how the sins of the crusaders were the cause of the failure of the crusade.

This 1658 edition was collected and edited by Odet-Philippe Des Mares.
