A rare 16^th-century edition of Heliodorus’s only known work, ‘Aethiopica’. Written sometime in the 3^rd or 4^th-century, this work tells the story and history of the development of Ethiopia through the lens of an ancient Greek romance novel. It is also believed that that Torquato Tasso took significant liberties from ‘Aethiopica’ and used them in his famous book ‘Jerusalem Delivered’.

This highly collectable 1626 French edition is one of the most desirable editions of this work. Titled ‘Les Amours de Theagene et Chariclee’, this printing contains 52 beautiful, full-page engravings of famed French engraver Michel Lasne.
