John Wemyss was an early 17^th-century Scottish clergyman who was much better known for his studies in Hebrew exegesis. He is widely considered to be the pioneering Jewish scholar in Scotland, much in part to this advocating for Jewish culture in Scotland. In 1623, Wemyss, also spelled Weemes, published his first work of Judaica, ‘The Christian Synagogue’. In this book, Weemes focuses on the customs of both the ancient Hebrews and modern Jews and the many Europeans that have converted to Judaism. There is a heavy emphasis on prayer and sacrifice throughout this book. According to Culotta, Weemes compares the use of prayer and sacrifice in both the Hebrew temple and the Hebrew synagogue.

This book also contains descriptions of the Old Testament Hebrew temple as well as the Temple of Jerusalem as it was during the time of Moses.
