1598 Queen Elizabeth 1ed Pithie Exhortation Royal Succession England Wentworth
Peter Wentworth was a 16th-century Puritan who is best remembered for his Parliamentary addresses while serving in the English Parliament. His speeches were so notable that they are considered a turning point in how speeches would be delivered in parliament. However, many politicians were outraged at his speeches, to the point where he was ultimately imprisoned in the Tower of London. Wentworth was critical of Queen Elizabeth and heavily petitioned the royal succession in her name. He wrote a book while in prison, a book which is well preserved in the annals of English history – “A Pithie Exhortation to her Majesty”. Wentworth completed this work before his death but never saw its publication as he died in the Tower.
