John Justus of Landsberg, more commonly known as Lanspergius, was an early 16^th-century Carthusian monk known for his ascetic approach to theology. His monastic life heavily influenced his writings, sermons, and prayers, which is evident in his work “Life of Gertrude the Virgin”. Saint Gertrude was a 13^th-century Benedictine nun who is known for her prophetic and mystical visions – events that made her one of the most iconic mystic visionaries of the 13^th-century.

Lanspergius was the first to categorize and annotate Gertrude’s revelations and visions for the Catholic Church. This 1589 edition was published in Venice by Gioliti de Ferrari.
