1588 HUGE FOLIO Homilies of Saint Chrysostom Bible & Commentary Homosexuality
“Happiness can only be achieved by looking inward & learning to enjoy whatever life has and this requires transforming greed into gratitude.”
― John Chrysostom
A rare 16th-century printing of works of John Chrysostom. Chrysostom was one of the most important Early Christian Church authors and preachers and is most remembered for his sermons and homilies. He preached on many different subjects, but his most frequented topic was helping the needy. Chrysostom calls for followers of Jesus to set aside their material desires to help the poor, often in a way that shamed the rich and guilted them in to giving.
“Do you pay such honor to your excrements as to receive them into a silver chamber-pot when another man made in the image of God is perishing in the cold?” (Chrysostom in Liebeschuetz)
His homilies were by far his most famous works – hundreds written in total – and covered a wide variety of topics including Roman rulers, the Bible, and even homosexuality.
This enormous, folio volume from the 1588 complete works of Chrysostom includes his Biblical homilies –
- On Epistle of Romans
- Notable for including Chrysostom’s famous homily against homosexuality – describing homosexuality as the worst of all sins, worse than murder.
- On Corinthians
- On Galatians
- On Ephesians
- On Philippians
- On Colossians
- On Thessalonians
- On Timothy
- On Titus
- On Philemon
- On Hebrews
