Antonius Melissa was an 11^th-century Greek monk who is primarily known for his only surviving work ‘Loci Communes’. This work is a collection of sentences, adages, and sermons on human morality and virtues. Melissa utilized the theologies and teachings of earlier church fathers, pagan leaders, and Jewish priests throughout ‘Loci’. Notable names included in this work include John Chrysostom, Saint Ignatius, Saint Gregory of Nazianzus, Athanasius, Plato, Xenophon, Socrates, Demosthenes, and many others.

This 1581 edition features contributions by Marco Antonio Antimaco and Conrad Gessner, who used the writings of Stobaeus throughout.
