Annotationes in Novum Testamentum – Lorenzo Valla – 1526 | Erasmus Basel Edition
Lorenzo Valla’s Latin and Greek textual commentary on the New Testament, edited by Erasmus and printed in Basel in 1526, in original 16th-century binding with ecclesiastical provenance.
Annotationes in Novum Testamentum by Lorenzo Valla, edited and printed in Basel by Erasmus in 1526, is a landmark work in New Testament commentary. First written in 1440s, Valla’s annotations addressed the inconsistencies with New Testament translations, noting the difficulties in translating from Greek to the Vulgate. This edition includes Erasmsus’s own analysis of Valla, edits that would appear in his own New Testament translation. Worth noting, this example includes the bookplate from the Canonry of the Blessed Virgin Mary, dated 1778.
