Harper’s Weekly. A Journal of Civilization, 1864 collects all 52 issues published during one of the most critical years of the American Civil War. Bound in quarter leather, this folio volume contains engravings, portraits, diagrams, and maps documenting both the battlefield and domestic fronts.
The maps of Richmond, Virginia, and Gettysburg are included with engraved detail. Reports cover Averill’s Raid, the Siege of Petersburg, Ringgold, Ezra’s Church, and Allatoona. Updates on General Grant’s movements through the Cumberland Mountains and Sherman’s campaigns in Georgia appear throughout. A portrait and text on General James Longstreet are included. One piece discusses white and black slaves in the United States (p.71). Another segment previews Charles Dickens’ Our Mutual Friend. A published address from President Abraham Lincoln addresses labor and workers.

Condition:
Very Good. Quarter leather binding with raised bands and gilt title on spine. Boards show light rubbing at corners. Hinges tight. Pages show mild age-toning and scattered foxing. Back board cracked and repaired, with resulting minor damage to approximately the last 20 leaves, though with no loss of text. All issues are present with engravings well-preserved and legible. Presented without general title page, as issued.
