Image Gallery Description & Details

Famous French artist, Gustave Doré was most known for his incredible woodcut engravings. He established himself as a prolific 19th-century illustrator and artist and the demand for his work was escalating. One such work was his collection of illustrations for Cervantes’ “Don Quixote”. Howard Mancing, in his book “Cervantes Don Quixote: A Reference Guide,” asserts that

“Doré’s romantic vision of Don Quixote has become the most popular and most frequently reprinted (and imitated) set of illustrations; for many people, Doré’s Quixote is Don Quixote.”

This edition includes 118 full-page engraved plates by Doré, bound in green leather over marbled boards, with gilt spine titling, marbled endpapers, and marbled page edges.
